Luckily for us, Macon has plenty of places that welcome our four-legged BFF’s, and luckily for you, we compiled several of them in this blog post. Parks & Trails
For those sunny days with clear, blue skies, there is no better place to play with your dogs than an outdoor park. Macon is known for having ample outdoor recreation, and most of it is pet-friendly.
1. Ocmulgee Heritage Trail
Amerson River Park and Ocmulgee Mounds National Historic Park are both connected to the 12-mile Ocmulgee Heritage Trail that runs through the heart of Macon. Your dogs can get all the exercise they need on this trail while they explore beautiful nature and impressive history alongside you.
2. Macon Dog Park
Within the fenced-in green space at Macon Dog Park, your pup will be able to run and play to their heart’s desire. This park allows dogs to be off-leash as they chase tennis balls and make new friends.
3. Lake Tobesofkee
The recreation area and duck ponds at Lake Tobesofkee are perfect places to enjoy a sunny day. Your dog can join you on these shores for a walk, a kayak ride, or just a relaxing picnic by the water.
4. Tattnall Square Park
This city park is located right outside Mercer University and offers a playground, soccer field, picnic area, and tennis courts. It’s also home to the Mulberry Market, open every Wednesday afternoon. Your dog can accompany the whole family for a day of fun.
Eats & Drinks
Macon has no shortage of delicious food and drinks, and we think it’s time for your dogs to partake in the flavor. So, grab your pup’s leash and check out these pet-friendly restaurants, breweries, and more.
1. Just Tap’d
Relax and enjoy a brew in downtown Macon at Just Tap’d, a gastropub known for its great beer selection and delicious bar grub. Plus, dogs are welcome on their outdoor patio.
2. The Rookery
This restaurant on Cherry Street will be your new favorite spot for burgers and shakes. They have many other unique menu options to enjoy in a fun atmosphere, and their outdoor patio is a great spot for your pup to lounge next to you.
3. Kudzu Seafood Company
The flavors of the gulf coast can be found in Macon at the Kudzu Seafood Company. They offer a wide selection from cajun scallops to fire-grilled oysters, and a few treats for your pup, too. Dogs are welcome on the covered patio, where they can sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown Macon.
4. Barks N Brews
A dog park with a bar? Sign me up! Barks N Brews is a park with a fenced-in play area and weekly events catered to pets. They also serve beers, wines, and ciders for us humans.
Lodging
1. Towneplace Suites by Marriott
Adjacent to Mercer University, this hotel features an outdoor pool, fitness center, laundry facilities, free tea and coffee, and a free buffet breakfast daily. You can bring your pets along to cheer on the Mercer Bears and explore the city. Keep in mind, they require a $100 non-refundable pet fee.
2. Candlewood Suites
Pets are considered part of the family at Candlewood Suites. All together, the family can enjoy their on-site business center, fitness center, and outdoor pool. They do require a $50 non-refundable pet fee at check-in.
3. Home2 Suites by Hilton
The pet-friendly rooms at Home2 Suites come with free hot breakfast, WiFi, an outdoor pool, fitness center, and business center. They also require a $50 non-refundable pet fee.
Macon is for the Pups
As you can see, there is no excuse to leave your dog at home anymore. Your pup can even tag along with you to First Fridays in Macon, a downtown event with art, food, and live music that takes place every first Friday of the month.
