Something we really look forward to in the fall season is the return of fall sports! If you love the excitement of competition and cheering on your favorite teams, you probably enjoy attending the local games.
You can find plenty of sports teams to watch in and around Middle Georgia, many of which are right here in Macon. From football to basketball, cheerleading, and even hockey, there are sports at every level and age range to enjoy.
This post will share some of our favorite local fall sports to watch and play!
Fall Sports in Middle Georgia
Mercer University is located in downtown Macon near Tattnall Square Park, and its athletics department is in full swing every fall. They have excellent tennis, soccer, basketball, cross country, volleyball, softball, golf, and football programs.
Mercer Gameday is a big deal for their football team, as every home game is complete with tailgating, live music, family activities, and a “bear” garden.

Wesleyan College is a liberal arts college for women on Forsyth Road in Macon. They shine in fall sports with their basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams, cross-country programs, and equestrian shows. Find out more about their athletic staff and other news on their website.
Middle Georgia State University Knights
Middle Georgia State University has Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, and Warner Robins facilities. They have programs for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball, along with an equestrian club.

The Macon Mayhem Hockey League season takes place every October through March. They play at the Macon Centreplex Coliseum at 200 Coliseum Drive. Head Coach Nick Niedert leads this year’s team. You can check out their schedule, read team news, and get tickets on their website!
High School Sports
Macon is known for its competitive high schools in both academics and athletics. The fall sports season is filled with football, volleyball, softball, and cross country. You can find the action at any of Macon’s high schools, including the Central-Macon Chargers, Howard High Huskies, Northeast Raiders, Southwest High Patriots, Rutland Hurricanes, and Westside Seminoles.

Macon-Bibb County also offers several recreational leagues in the fall, including Macon-United Travel Football for youth, Youth Fall Recreational Cheerleading, Adult Flag Football, Youth Basketball, and Youth Fall Recreational Football.
